SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN UNTIL JAN. 15, 2014
Submissions: Portmanteau only accepts electronic submissions on a rolling basis. For submissions in any genre, please adhere to submission guidelines to ensure your submission will reach our editors. Submissions must be original pieces of work with no previous publication credits. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but if your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know as soon as possible.
Reading Periods: The submission period is now open, until Jan. 15th, 2014 for the second issue of Portmanteau.
Authors and artists whose work is accepted grant Portmanteau first worldwide electronic publishing rights, after which all rights revert to the author/artist. General submission guidelines and genre specific guidelines follow, please send all submissions to: email@example.com
General Guidelines for Submission
Artists may submit work in all three categories: prose, poetry, and art.
In the title of the e-mail, please type the genre of your submission, last name and first name with a period separating each. If submitting to more than one genre, please send multiple e-mails per genre entry.
Ex: Prose.Doe.John Ex: Poetry.Doe.John Ex: Art.Doe.John
In the body of your e-mail, please include your name (as you want it to appear if published), contact information, a short biography written in the third person, and the titles of your submissions.
All work should be attached to the e-mail. Accepted formats for written work include Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format or PDF. No other formats will be accepted.
Because submissions will be blindly screened and selected by students, faculty, and visiting editors at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, we ask that you DO NOT include your name anywhere on your attached submissions or work. Manuscript files should be labeled with the title of the work.
Ex: TheSecondStory.doc Ex: Trees.pdf Ex: OklahomaPride.rtf
You may submit up to three pieces of poetry. Space is at a premium, so poems of 70 lines or less are more likely to be accepted for publication.
Prose: Fiction/Creative Non-Fiction/Essays
You may submit up to two pieces of prose. Space is at a premium, so prose pieces under 3,000 words are more likely to be accepted for publication.
Become a featured artist of an issue of Portmanteau and have a piece of your artwork receive the cover spot!
Artists should submit up to three of their top pieces of artwork (photographs of artwork acceptable) to Portmanteau. You may also mail art entries (only art entries can be mailed), or drop art entries off at the Fine Arts and Communication Department's Secretary Office on the third floor of Shipley Hall. If your work is selected, we will require up to 20 pieces of artwork to review for inclusion in the journal. Please have enough artwork/photography available and completed if you are chosen. The featured artist will also have their work featured on the cover of Portmanteau. Two runner-up artists will have select work published in the journal as well.
Two other artists will be selected as runners-up to have 3-4 pieces of their work featured in Portmanteau.
You may submit up to three pieces of visual art, including photography, photographed art/paintings/sculpture, and static digital art.
