Why NEO? Why not a University?

Because all our Theatre NEO grads leave with a much greater body of experience on and off stage than can possible be found in the first two years of a four-year school. Most of our graduates leave with a bare minimum of 6 college shows on their resumes; many have ten or more. Some even have added some professional experience, since we participate yearly in professional auditions for those who are interested in working. At NEO, your only competition is other freshmen and sophomores. At Universities, you’ll be competing for the same roles against juniors, seniors, and even graduate students.

How Large Will My Classes Be?

“At NEO, class sizes in the theatre program are very small. We strive to have classes of about 12-14 students. Often, classes will be even smaller. Even in General Education courses, class size seldom tops 30. At NEO, you get individual, personalized attention from all of your instructors. NEO is more like an extension of your family than a big anonymous University.”

Work Both On Stage and Off

The NEO Theatre does four main stage shows per year, two traveling shows, and often works in conjunction with the Vocal Music Program with their Medieval Feast. If there are interested sophomores, we also sponsor an evening of one-acts directed by and cast with students. In all that’s eight or more shows per year. With a department of approximately 20 majors, everyone gets to perform as often as they are willing and able to participate, and in any capacity they wish to fulfill.

Are There Scholarships Available?

Yes, we have a number of tuition, book and room scholarships that are awarded on the basis of auditions (or, in the case of techies, on the basis of an interview and portfolio review). These auditions are scheduled at your convenience, and are one-on-one rather than cattle-calls. We ask actors to prepare a one-minute monologue.
