Once again, it is that time of year when Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) will host the Annual Picher All-School Reunion. The reunion will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. inside the Student Activity Center on NEO’s campus.
“Former Picher Gorilla classmates will meet on the campus of NEO A&M College to reminisce with each other,” said Jennifer Hessee, executive director of the NEO Foundation. “The Picher Committee has worked diligently the past several months to plan the annual event and award scholarships to former Picher students.”
The committee awarded 10 Carolyn Elmore scholarships totaling $3,400 to area students who will attend NEO in the fall. Those receiving scholarships include: Alexa Chapa, Quapaw; Amanda Renick, Quapaw; Cody Adams, Quapaw; Cortney Craig, Commerce; Jayme Weaver, Miami; Jesilynne Simpson, Miami; Jon Parker Morgan, Commerce; Megan Freeman, Grove; Sami Miller, Riverton, Kan.; and Sydney Pierce, Wyandotte.
The Carolyn Elmore scholarship was established by the City of Picher in memory of Elmore to help former students of the Picher School System or descendants of individuals who attended Picher schools. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA). As part of the application process, students were required to submit an essay detailing their connection to Picher and what the town means to them.
The Picher Reunion is free and open to all former Picher graduates and residents. For more information, please contact Picher Alum Susie Crawford-Stone at 918-533-5514.
