Andrew Olson

Bio: Hello all. My name is Andrew Olson; I hail from central Minnesota, and completed my undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Moorhead in 2006 with a double major in English and Mass Communications. After graduating, I moved to Fort Collins, Colo where I worked and lived for about a year before I returned to Minn to begin work as a technical writer for a corporation based out of Alexandria, Minn. After a year as a technical writer, I returned to Minnesota State University, Moorhead to complete my graduate work. At MSUM I received my Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing with an emphasis in fiction, and a certificate of publishing. I taught college composition and literature courses at MSUM from 2009-2011, and upon graduating, began instructing at one of the largest community colleges in the nation: Northern Virginia Community College. At NVCC I instructed all levels of composition from developmental through advanced composition. During my time in Northern Virginia, I also instructed courses at ITT-Technical Institute just outside of Washington, D.C. Courses instructed at ITT-Tech included Philosophical Ethics, Composition, and Critical Writing courses. In the fall of 2012, I became a full-time English instructor at NEO A&M College.

Writing: Since beginning my graduate work at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, I have published various short stories, poems, critical essays and reviews in national publications. My work has appeared in such publications as The Monarch Review, Down in the Dirt Magazine, The Linnet's Wings, Leaf Garden Press, The Yellow Bicycle, Red Weather Journal, Read This!, WeirdYear, 1,000 Words, and LoveChild Journal.

In May of 2012, my first book, a collection of short stories, was released by Knuckledown Press. The book, Barn Stripping and Other Stories, is a collection of agrarian and rural stories set in the upper Midwest. You can learn more about the book by visiting my webpage here. Personal Interests: Writing, reading, watching classic movies, traveling with my wife, eating new cuisine, attending concerts (classic rock), listening to music, working with amazing college students, and watching THE Ohio State Buckeyes dominate on Saturday afternoons.
