Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a pleasant and friendly Cashier to join our team! As a Cashier, you will be responsible for different cashiering, receptionist, and clerical duties related to the Bursar Office. As the front-line-employee, your role will be extremely important for improving customer experience and satisfaction.
The Cashier communicates daily via in person, phone, and email with students, third party billing, college personnel and authorized entities. The individual in this position processes cash and checks for students, third party payers, staff, and other departments. The Cashier interacts daily with partnering student service in solving problems and answering questions regarding payments, billing, restrictions, protections, current balances due, collections, refunds, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide customer-service oriented interaction in all telephone and email responses to students, faculty and staff.
- Monitor and respond to incoming text, emails, and phone calls daily.
- Assist in directing students and guests.
- Receive and receipts cash/credit card/check payments, third party payments and departmental receipts.
- Maintain cash drawer;
- Balances cash drawer against receipts.
- Resolves discrepancies.
- Assist students in analyzing and understanding their statements.
- Invoice third parties and consult with outside agencies regarding payment of student accounts.
- Assist in the student refund check process, coping and mailing.
- Manage assigned housing applications and deposits, incoming and outgoing.
- Assist with NEO meal plan cards.
- Aid other staff members during peak periods through sharing job responsibilities and working on special projects, when capable.
- Process paper documents utilizing the imaging and electronic document management system.
- Assist individual departments with departmental charges.
- Ensure strict confidentiality of financial records.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- High School graduate or equivalent required
- Cash handling experience
- Customer service experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have good interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere; friendly and able to deal with stressful situations; demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible; be organized, has the ability to prioritize, and solve problems.
