Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) recently held the 74th annual High School Basketball Tournament in January. The event is one of NEO’s largest recruiting events of the year, with over 1,000 players, cheerleaders, and student fans traveling to campus.
“We are able to draw so many students from various locations to NEO and showcase our beautiful campus,” said Elsie Grover, director of recruitment. “During this year’s tournament, we were able to collect nearly 150 seniors’ contact information. This will allow us to invite them to other NEO events and recruit for the upcoming fall semester”
Along with the opportunity to tour NEO and meet with campus officials, three students were selected to receive $600 Viking Scholarships. Hunter Deerinwater from Welch, Okla., was selected on Thusday, Jan. 24, Carter Miller from Braggs, Okla, was selected on Friday, Jan. 25, and Ragan Hudson from Afton, Okla., was selected on Jan. 26.
This year, 47 teams traveled from throughout the four-state area to compete in seven divisions. The Wyandotte boys defeated Nowata by a slim 2 points in the Blue Boys Division.
The Quapaw girls roared past Commerce by 25 to win the Blue Girls Division.
#3 Roland boys defeated Claremore by 5 to take the Gold Boys Division.
The Edmond North Girls had 14 points over Grove to win the Gold Girls Division.
The boys from Oklahoma Bible won over St. Paul by 13 to claim the Norse Boys Division.
Bluejacket put down Cave Springs by 27 to win the Norse Girls Division.
The hometown Miami girls defeated Wyandotte by a nail-biting 2 points to win the Silver Division.
