Officials at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) are announcing that Mr. Larry Reece, OSU’s “Voice of the Cowboys,” will deliver the keynote address at this year’s commencement. The event is set for Thurs. May 5, at 7 p.m. at Red Robertson Field. In the event of rain, the ceremony will relocate to the Student Activity Center.
Larry Reece is the director of development and major gifts at Oklahoma State University, but is most recognizable for his iconic voice at Boone Pickens Stadium. After attending NEO, Reece transferred to Stillwater in 1989. He was the first student to call OSU games and in 1993, was named the Outstanding Graduate of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting. In late 2014, Larry Reece was diagnosed with throat cancer and he had to undergo a rigorous chemotherapy treatment. During his treatment, Reece was surrounded by support from his OSU and Miami family. The twitter hashtag #iridewiththevoice showed up on wristbands and t-shirts. Reece is now cancer free and has even called games at this year’s NCAA tournament. “Larry is a great example of what happens when we make family, friends, and faith our top priorities in life,” said Dr. Jeff Hale, NEO president. “He is loved by many and respected by all.”
