Officials at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) announced Marcel Walther as the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Young Alumnus. The award recognizes alumni under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their profession and community. Walther will be formally honored during the Alumni Awards luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 7, at noon in the Calcagno Family Ballroom. All alumni and friends of the college are invited to attend. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under, and may be purchased by contacting the NEO Development Foundation office at 918-540-6115. NEO’s “Peace, Love, and Homecoming” festivities will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. Walther studied at NEO starting in the summer of 1996 before transferring to Oklahoma State University to complete a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance in 2001. He currently serves as the President of Security Bank and Trust Company in Miami, Okla. Walther lives in Miami with his wife, Jill, and his two children. Following his education at OSU, Walther married his high school sweetheart and began working with Haliburton Energy before moving to Arvest Bank. He became the President at Security Bank and Trust in 2012, following the retirement of the former president. In his position, he oversees the general operations of the bank. Along with ensuring the success of all deposits, loans, and general performance, he frequently addresses shareholders with updates on the overall health and success of the institution.
When he is not working, Walther spends as much time as he can with his family. Apart from occasionally coaching their nine-year-old daughter Avery or seven-year-old son Lane, Marcel and his wife Jill are highly involved in their children’s after school activities. According to Walther, he works hard so that he and his family can play hard. “It is privilege to honor Marcel Walther as this year’s Outstanding Young Alumnus,” said Jennifer Walker, executive director of the NEO Development Foundation. “Marcel has risen through the ranks in the banking world in a very short time. He has also made serving his community and his alma mater a priority.” For more information, contact Jordan Adams at Jordan.m.adams@neo.edu.
