The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College eSports team was named 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association Esports National Champion in Valorant. NEO eSports went undefeated for the season with 22 wins.

The NEO eSports championship team members are Matheus Faris, Caio Lucas, Fabio Saramello, Frederico Skowronsky, and Fabio Franklin, all from Brazil. Elizabeth Flees is the program coordinator, and Thales Vilar is the coach.

“The NEO eSports Valorant team won the national championship after a 12-0 match win streak,” said NEO eSports coach Thales Vilar. “This accomplishment is great for our students as they are reaching their goals academically and professionally with gaming. We are grateful to have amazing support from our administration.”

Valorant is a team-based, first-person tactical shooter game developed by Riot Games. Players are assigned to the attacking or defending team, each with five players. The last team standing wins.

“These athletes have been hustling since day one,” said NEO eSports Coordinator Elizabeth Flees. “They arrived at NEO just a few months ago without knowing each other but united under a common goal, to win. This season they have far exceeded our expectations. Winning regional champions, state champions, and then national champions. Their hard work is evident, and they are the embodiment of the Norse tradition.”
