Livestock Judgers from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), attended the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 13, 2012 and placed in the top 10 in every division (Swine, Sheep, Cattle, Reasons, and Overall).  According the association’s website, The North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) is the world’s largest all-breed, purebred livestock exposition. Ten different species of livestock compete in the exposition, and the purebred beef and sheep events are the largest in the world.

NEO competed against 21 other Junior College Teams. NEO placed in the top ten in each division, ending up Seventh in Cattle, Sixth in Reasons, Eighth in Sheep, Sixth in Swine, and Sixth place Overall.  “I am very proud of my team. They have put in a lot of hours, and it shows,” said Tyler Dewey, NEO Livestock Judging Coach. “We are working very hard to bring the winning Livestock Judging tradition back to Miami.”

Selected contestants compete, as a team and individually, to judge groups of appropriate classes. Each contestant then meets one-on-one with a judge who listens to the reasons for that contestant’s placement. Scores are based on presentation as well as accuracy of placement. Contestants gain skill in decision-making, critical thinking, oral communication, and self-confidence in addition to advancing their knowledge of the field.

Abby Hendrickson placed Fifth in Sheep, Eighth in Cattle, High Individual in Reasons, and Fifth Overall. Immediately after finishing the contest, Hendrickson boarded a plane and flew to Oklahoma City, Okla. to compete at the AQHA World Championship Show where she was a member of the World Champion Horse Judging Team.   The team placed Sixth Overall, Seventh in Cattle, Sixth in Oral Reasons, Eighth in Sheep, and Sixth in Swine.

Team members include: Abby Hendrickson — Adair, Okla.  Cheyenne Moyer — Prairie Grove, Ark. Megan Montgomery — Auxvasse, Mo. Lindsay Reid — Harrah, Okla. Taylor Langford — Calhoun, Ga. Robert Jones — Fair Grove, Mo. Ryan Jones — Fair Grove, Mo. Ben Bass — Fair Grove, Mo. Dylann Bishop — Willard, Mo. Garrett Williams — Quemado, N.M. Caleb Lockard — Aurora, Mo.
