The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Band and Choir programs have combined their fall presentations and worked together with the COVID Task Force to ensure students and their families will have a 2020 in-person concert on campus. The combined concert, titled the “Covid Collaboration Project,” is the work of NEO Band Director, Adam Compton, and NEO Director of Choirs and Vocal Music, Dr. Tatiana Taylor. “The fall concert seemed an impossibility at the beginning of the semester,” said Dr. Taylor. “However, with the right precautions put in place and careful planning, both the band and choral department decided to join forces.”
Measures taken to reduce the risk of spread within the Fine Arts Center include the mandatory on-campus mask requirement, social distancing, one-way traffic, and surface disinfection. “We are proud of the work, patience, and trust the students have shown during this time,” added Taylor. “We are also grateful for an institution that is allowing us to take the necessary precautions in order to stay safe and yet keep our art form alive.” In addition, special masks were purchased for the musicians on stage. Theses specially designed masks allow the students to safely perform their music with minimal restriction. “This concert is going to be a fun night to enjoy some good music,” said Compton. “The students are excited to perform their work this semester for a live audience. I am really looking forward to it, and so are these young musicians.” The Covid Collaboration Project Band and Choir Concert is November 12 and 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the NEO Fine Arts Center. Seating is limited to 150 attendees. Reserve your seats free of charge at http://neomusicdepartment.eventbrite.com.
