Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College will induct Tony Peters into the Athletic Hall of Fame on September 23 at 11am in the Calcagno Family Ballroom.
Peters grew up in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where he attended Pauls Valley High School and was named to the 1971 All-State football team.
Peters played football at NEO from 1972 to 1974. As a defensive back he had three interceptions his freshman year and ten his sophomore year, and he was named Most Valuable Player of the Green Bowl game.
At the University of Oklahoma, Peters became a 1974 National Championship team member and he was named an All-Big Eight defensive back.
The Cleveland Browns selected Peters in the fourth round of the National Football League draft in 1975. He spent four seasons with the Browns before joining the Washington Redskins, now known as the Washington Commanders, for six seasons.
Peters was a member of the 1983 Washington Redskins Superbowl XVII team, and he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl in 1982.
In 2018, Peters was named the number one cornerback in University of Oklahoma football history by 247 Sports. He served as the head football coach at Muskogee High School from 1998-2000. Peters is currently coaching for Tulsa Public Schools and has since 2002.
