In celebration of National Poetry Month, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) and Chapters Bookstore will present Oklahoma Poet Laureate Jeanette Calhoun Mish on April 16, for a poetry workshop and reading. Both events are free and will take place in the Commons Hall Auditorium.

Jeanetta Calhoun Mish is a scholar, poet, prose writer, and the 2017-18 Oklahoma State Poet Laureate. Her most recent books are What I Learned at the War, a poetry collection and Oklahomeland: Essays. Dr. Mish is Director of The Red Earth Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts Program at Oklahoma City University where she also serves as advisor to Red Earth Review and as a faculty mentor in writing pedagogy, professional writing, and the craft of poetry.

Mish will lead a self-portrait poem and flash memoir workshop in Commons Hall at 4:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring paper and a writing utensil to this session. At 6:30 p.m., she will then give a poetry reading, take questions, and conduct a book signing in Commons Hall. “We’re excited for Miami to be able to host the talented Ms. Mish,” said Jessie Hess of Chapters. “Her poetry workshop and evening presentation will be such a treat for our community, an inspiration for creative minds.” For more information about the event or National Poetry Month, contact Chapters at chaptersmiami@yahoo.com or 918-540-0468.
