NEO Wrestling hosted the 2023 NJCAA Coaches Association duals Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Competing in the duals were 19 teams from around the country representing schools in Oregon, Wyoming, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma.

“We were thrilled to host an event of this magnitude. Thirteen of the teams that attended are ranked in the top 20 in the country,” said NEO Wrestling coach Joe Renfro. “We have better grasped where we are as a team after this event, which is preparing us for the individual national tournament in March.”

NEO went undefeated in pool wrestling on Friday, sending them to the winner’s bracket on Saturday. After a tough battle NEO finished 5th overall.

Pool Results for NEO:

  • Northeast Oklahoma defeated Northeastern Junior College 26-19
  • Northeast Oklahoma defeated Labette Community College 35-9.
  • Northeast Oklahoma defeated Snow 34-15.

Overall Results (Top 6 Finishers):

  • 1st Place – Iowa Central Community College
  • 2nd Place – Triton College
  • 3rd Place – North Idaho College
  • 4th Place – Carl Albert State
  • 5th Place – Northeast Oklahoma A&M College
  • 6th Place – Southwestern Oregon Community College

1st Place Match

  • Iowa Central Community College defeated Triton College 31-9.

3rd Place Match

  • North Idaho College defeated Carl Albert State 23-21.

5th Place Match

  • Northeast Oklahoma defeated Southwestern Oregon Community College 32-15.

The duals took place in the NEO student activity center and gym. Friday consisted of pool wrestling to decide seeding for the advance team tournament on Saturday.
