Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s (NEO), Mu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) inducted a new class into the prestigious international honor society. The ceremony took place Nov. 13. The keynote speaker for the evening was NEO Academic Advisor and Assistant Director of the Honors Program Keeley Adams. “As student leaders on campus, your actions set the precedent for a culture of inclusion,” Mrs. Adams said. “I don’t say this to pressure you, but to challenge you be inclusive and encourage your peers to do the same.” “Inclusion is the consideration of all thoughts and ideas, the understanding that each person’s opinion is heard, appreciated, and most importantly, valued,” she added. “When we work to create a culture of inclusion, we show others that we are not only respectful of differences, but strive to understand those differences and learn from them. Inclusion leads to understanding and understanding lends itself to growth.”

To gain admittance into PTK, students must complete at least 12 hours of courses and maintain a 3.5 grade point average. Through their membership in PTK, students will have access to scholarships and service opportunities. The Mu chapter on the NEO campus is very involved in both campus activities and off-campus events. They are committed to serve the campus by providing student workers to clean up after football games, as well as sponsoring events like Food-4-Finals, a tutoring session and meal held every semester during finals week.
