The athletic department at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), hosted their annual “Pink” basketball games Monday, Feb. 17th, which honored those who are fighting or have survived breast cancer. This year’s theme was “Keep Calm and Shoot for the Cure.” The event was sponsored by Freeman Health System and Integris Baptist Regional Health Center.

The women’s and men’s basketball team went up against Eastern State. Lady Norse won the game 77-68, and the Golden Norse won 91-76.  Pink cupcakes were sold during the evening, and for every cupcake purchased there was a chance to win a pink Pandora bracelet provided to NEO by Goforth’s Jewelry. An autographed pink basketball was also auctioned off during halftime of the men’s game, and donation jars were placed by the voting stations in the lobby for the annual “Bras-for-a-Cause” contest.

Not only did both the men and women’s teams claim victory that night, but this year’s event raised more than $1,800, beating last year’s total of $600. The event overall proved to be even more successful than last year. All proceeds benefit students in need of mammograms.   One of the highlights of the night took place during halftime where various coaches stepped out on the court wearing some of the cleverly crafted bras, including the winning bra by Buffalo Run Casino (the gambler bra), worn by Qualan Johnson, an NEO football player. “Overall, the event proved to be successful, and NEO is thrilled to have risen more than last year, especially for something as important as student mammograms,” said Lisa Severe, event coordinator.
