Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The position requires that the Nursing Instructor accompany and supervise nursing students at clinical facilities during assigned clinical experiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assign clinical experiences to students in accordance with Nursing Program protocol
- Supervise students in the clinical setting
- Facilitate student learning during clinical experience
- Evaluate students in clinical setting, in accordance with the Nursing Program policies and institutional policies
- Assist students in accomplishing the necessary skills for nursing competency
- Maintain a record system of student evaluations
- Provide students with feedback to support learning in a timely manner
- Communicate to the Nursing Faculty in a timely manner if a student’s performance is not meeting the minimum standards set forth by the Nursing Program or if the students may have violated Nursing Program policy
- Incorporate technology into the learning experience and communication with students in accordance with the Nursing Program’s policies and protocol
- Keep abreast of current professional research and trends particularly in specialty area
- Maintain currency and competency in assigned clinical
- Comply with all appropriate academic standards as set forth by the accreditation agency of the college, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges, the College, and the particular programs
- Maintain necessary credentials and notify the Director of Nursing immediately if the status has changed
- Provide documents that verify instructor’s compliance with clinical facility agreements and College policy
- Maintain a professional attitude, cooperating with administration, faculty, staff, students, and community, and following accepted channels in all official campus communication
- Support the vision, mission, and goals of the college
- Accept other related work responsibilities as assigned
- Possess: Critical thinking ability and emotional stability sufficient for intellectual functions and emotional stability to plan/implement care for patients; interpersonal abilities sufficient to interact with individuals, families and groups from a variety of social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds; and communication abilities sufficient to interact with others in verbal and written forms
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing will be considered
- Two years full-time equivalent experience in clinical nursing as a Registered Nurse with five years of first teaching position
- Valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the states of Oklahoma and Missouri
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Physical demands include, but are not limited to the following:
- Motor skills – gross and fine motor abilities to provide sufficient safe and effective care
- Lifting and proper body mechanics – lift a minimum of 50 pounds and utilize proper body mechanics
- Hearing – Auditory ability sufficient to monitor and assess health needs
- Visual – Visual acuity sufficient for observation and assessment necessary in nursing care
- Tactile – Tactile ability sufficient for physical assessment
