We are looking for three students who would be able to work between the hours of 1pm and 6pm. You’re lifeguard certification of $200 will be paid for upon completion of course.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Prevent any emergencies from occurring during pool/wellness center operation hours, protect the lives of individuals in the pool and wellness center, and assist patrons if an emergency does occur.

JOB DUTIES

  • Always follow EAP procedures and severe weather policy
  • Arrive 15 minutes before work time – DO NOT leave Aquatics Center during your shift
  • Be rescue ready at all times while in Aquatics Center
  • No cell phone, computer, iPad, iPod, etc use in the Aquatics Center while on duty
  • All shifts that need covered should be posted in the group chat

Arrival Check List

  • Open Student Activity Center and Wellness Center
  • Turn on lights including pool lights when patrons are using Aquatics Center (notify supervisor of any lights that are out)
  • Ensure that phones are operating correctly
  • Survey surroundings (look for potential dangers)
  • Ensure that all equipment is stored properly in Wellness Center and Aquatics Center
  • Clear deck and gutters of any debris when opening aquatics center
  • Test and document pool chemistry. Contact Aquatics Coordinator immediately if:
    • Chlorine is at or near a zero or above a 5
    • pH is below a 7.4 or above a 7.6
  • Document pool and air temperature on white board
  • Remove pool vacuum and replace stairs and thermometer as necessary

In Shift Check List

  • Politely greet patrons
  • Check ID Cards and Wellness Memberships
  • Clean according to posted cleaning schedule (Including but not limited to: Vacuuming, Wiping down machines, mopping, cleaning pool deck.)
  • Vacuum Wellness Center floor as needed (Ex Clumps of dirt near treadmill)
  • Empty trash when needed
  • Make frequent, scheduled rounds through Wellness Center and Student Activity Center to check on patrons and put any equipment up that has been left out
  • Clean pool deck as scheduled
  • Sweep dirt at bottom of pool into drains as scheduled
  • Test and document pool chemistry as scheduled. Contact Aquatics Coordinator immediately if:
    • Chlorine is at or near a zero or above a 5
    • pH is below a 7.4 or above a 7.6

Departure (Closing) Check List

  • Survey Aquatics Center and Wellness Center surroundings (look for potential dangers)
    • Aquatics Center- Is equipment put up? Are ring buoys, backboard, and life hooks in place?
    • Wellness Center- Is equipment put up? Are free weights, medicine balls, etc put up?
  • Wipe down equipment in Wellness Center
  • Empty trash if needed in Aquatics Center and Wellness Center
  • Vacuum Wellness Center
  • Put Aquatic Vacuum in if scheduled or needed. (Take steps and thermometer out of pool)
  • Clean the pool deck if not already cleaned.
  • Squeegee all standing water on pool deck into deck drains (Not into the gutter).
  • Test and document pool chemistry. Contact Aquatics Coordinator immediately if:
    • Chlorine is at or near a zero or above a 5
    • pH is below a 7.4 or above a 7.6
  • Ensure that phones are operating correctly
  • Turn off Aquatics Center lights including pool lights (notify supervisor of any lights that are out)
  • Lock Aquatics Center Doors
  • Return Aquatics Center Key
  • Ensure that all exit only doors are closed and locked
  • Turn off Wellness Center and SAC lights
  • Wellness Center and Student Activity Center

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maintain an American Red Cross or other nationally recognized lifeguarding certification
  • Attend regular in-service training
  • NEO Wellness Employees are expected to explain, enforce, and support NEO Wellness and College policies and procedures. Failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal.
  • NEO Wellness Employees are expected to act as a positive representative of the NEO Wellness Department.
  • NEO Wellness Staff must accept all other duties determined and assigned by the Aquatics and Wellness Coordinators.
  • NEO Wellness Staff members are expected to be available to work during times that campus is open.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES

  • Evaluations will be based on job performance and participation in pre-scheduled in-service training.

SCHEDULE

  • The Aquatics Center and Wellness Center Coordinators will work around the student’s schedule to create an appropriate work schedule.
  • Employees should expect job schedules to be consistent.
  • Employees should expect a minimum of 10hrs per week but no more than 20hrs per week on average
  • Some weekend hours are available
