The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Equine Judging Team again claimed high team overall at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress (AQHA Congress), in Columbus, Ohio. Following claiming high team in 2017, the NEO Blue team claimed the top spot, with the NEO Gold team placing third. Cheyenne Detherow, a sophomore Agriculture Business major from Ozark, Mo., also claimed reserve high individual overall following a strong performance in the Halter class. She was joined by Baily Summers, a sophomore Agriculture Business major from Ozark, Mo., and Abby Hays, a sophomore Physical Science major from Claremore, Okla., who also earned top 5 overall placements.

The AQHA Congress is the largest single breed horse show in the world. NEO judgers earned multiple top-ten finishes in the individual categories. They also secured seven of the top-ten individual spots, and nine of the top thirteen spots. Finishing the strongest in the performance category, Summers finished second, with NEO taking seven of the top ten placings. “I am extremely proud of the hard work these ladies have put forth in accomplishing their personnel and team goals,” said Head Coach Amanda Jones. “These students are very passionate about judging and it shows each day they show up for practice. I am excited to see how we finish out our season in a few weeks and have truly enjoyed getting to coach this group of students.”

Coaches Jones and Josi Reed now prepare for the AQHA World Show, to be held on the weekend of Nov. 10. For more information about the NEO Equine Judging Team, contact Gentry Hutchison at gentrsh@neo.edu or call 918-540-6368. For more information about NEO Agriculture teams, visit neoathletics.com.
