Tyson Howard A Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) student recently had the opportunity to travel to Oklahoma City to attend the George and Donna Nigh Leadership Academy. Tyson Howard, a Pre-Engineering student who was named one of NEO’s Top Ten Freshmen was selected to represent NEO at the annual event. “I was honored to have been selected to represent NEO as the Nigh Scholar in the Nigh Leadership Academy,” said Howard. “This was a great experience that I will never forget.”

Howard traveled with student representatives from other Oklahoma public higher education institutions. The academy, held on February 19-23, incorporated the motto “We Can Do It From Here,” which highlighted Oklahoma’s history of state accomplishment. “My favorite part of the trip was being able to tour the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum,” added Howard. “It was enlightening to see such an important piece of our state’s history. It was just amazing to see the way that not only Oklahoma City, but the entire state came together in the wake of the bombing of the Murrah building.”

Along with visits to significant sites in Oklahoma’s history, Howard was able to hear lectures from some of Oklahoma’s most influential citizens. “The information and tools I received from attending the academy will, without a doubt, help me in my future career.” For more information about the Nigh Academy, contact Amy Ishmael at aishmael@neo.edu.
