Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) will host Mr. Micheal Bergstrom and Dr. John Myers for an Oklahoma State Senate District 1 debate. The event will take place in the Commons Hall Auditorium on the NEO campus at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 24. Social Science Instructor Tom Callan will moderate the debate and present questions focused current topics in Oklahoma politics. John Myers is the Democratic candidate and Micheal Bergstrom is the Republican candidate seeking the office, as incumbent Democrat Charles Wyrick is unable to run for re-election due to term limits. Candidates will answer questions about their positions on current political topics such as the various state questions, including the one percent sales tax, right to farm, and state budgeting.

The format for this event is a moderated debate, with candidates submitting topic suggestions and Mr. Callan formulating questions to best serve the public interest. The northeastern Oklahoma community is encouraged to attend this free event. There will be an opportunity for informal interviews with the candidates following the event. Absentee ballots can be requested through the Oklahoma State Election Board at ok.gov/elections and the deadline to request an absentee ballot is November 2 by 5 p.m. Early voting in Oklahoma will take place on Nov. 3 – 6, check with the Election Board Website for times and locations.
