Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for teaching basic skills to students with varying academic levels while integrating GED skills, reading and math skills, social studies, science, and soft skills to prepare students for “Next Steps” beyond the HSE. Helps students meet necessary goals and qualify to get a GED. Prepares students to take GED exam.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instruct students on material needed to earn their GED.
  • Teach basic skills encompassing Math, Science, Social Studies, English, and Literature.
  • Enroll students in Essential Education curriculum
  • Help students prepare and study for GED exam.
  • Assess students’ readiness to take exam.
  • Maintain Google Doc attendance.
  • Track student attendance to post-test at or just beyond 40 instructional hours
  • Schedule TABE testing when appropriate
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
  • Utilize various curriculum resources.
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Develop incentives to keep participants in class.
  • Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs.
  • Participate in at least 15 hours of approved professional development within each PY.
  • Work with program coordinator/director to ensure initiatives are being met.
  • Tutor students on an individual basis if needed.
  • Prepare and distribute required reports.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
  • Maintain student sign-in sheets, turn into director at the end of each month.
  • Be sure attendance sheets correctly reflect times on sign-in sheets.
  • Maintain correct timesheet tasks

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or similar field. Must have a current teaching certificate from Oklahoma or a surrounding state.
  • Must be comfortable with technology, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, Exchange 365 (email).
  • Must be comfortable meeting new people, building appropriate relationships with students, and reaching out to them after a period of absences.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have reliable transportation.
