Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Bookstore Sales Clerk provides excellent customer service for all customer needs and purchases. The Sales Clerk also assists in the process of ordering, receiving, pricing and stocking merchandise. It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Use computer program to process financial aid, agency and department charges while maintaining the confidentiality and security of protected student information on accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Checks in and stocks books and other merchandise; assures that all orders have been filled according to purchase requisitions and that the proper prices are affixed and that the packing slips are verified.
  • Assists Bookstore customers in locating materials and by serving as a cashier; makes change accurately and properly accounts for financial transactions at the end of each working day.
  • Assists with the annual Bookstore inventory.
  • Becomes familiar with the point of sale, processes related paperwork in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Help keep bookstore clean to assure professional image and merchandise displayed in an appealing manner. Also, relocation of stock when needed.
  • Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies, keeping proper records as necessary.
  • Safeguards institutional physical resources by caring properly for assets assigned to the workstation and by prohibiting unauthorized use.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s Degree in Clerical or Office work preferred. Extensive experience in related are considered in lieu of degree
  • Good public relations, ability to work will under pressure with competence and accuracy without sacrificing quality of work
  • Excellent typing, calculator and filing skills and computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of cash register operations, which includes balancing reports of daily receipts
  • Good management skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift boxes up to 50lbs. Must be able to safely push or pull cartons, packages, counters, displays, etc.… up to 75 lbs. Must be able to bend, turn, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required.
