Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide academic support and guidance to students enrolled in various courses, with an emphasis on English and Math. Assist students with understanding course material, improving study skills, and enhancing their overall academic performance. This role requires strong subject knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. The Tutor also serves as a positive role model at NEO.
JOB DUTIES
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring.
- Recognize the different learning styles and preferences of students.
- Use active listening strategies to allow student to determine content and pace of tutoring.
- Recognize primary role to help students become confident, successful, self-directed learners.
- Be direct and kind with students at the same time.
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of staff and students.
- Attend and participate in tutor training.
- Assist the program in recruiting participants.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current NEO A & M student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be recommended by a faculty member
- Be available 10-20 hours a week between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm ( 4:00 pm on Fridays)
- Be proficient in Math and/or English; grade of B or higher in Intermediate Algebra
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
- Performance of job duties will be evaluated on an ongoing basis by office staff.
- Special attention will be paid to the following:
- Getting to work on time for scheduled shifts
- Accuracy of work performed
- Appropriate use of time while at work
- Maintaining confidentiality of student information
- Following assigned work schedule
SCHEDULE
- The Tutoring Center will work around the student’s schedule to create an appropriate work schedule.
- Center is open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays.
DURATION OF POSITION
Start Date: August 2024 End Date: May 2025
